The moment has finally arrived for fans of Edward and Alphonse Elric as the brothers encounter new characters, dangers, and mysteries in Part Two of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, “the most anticipated new anime in years.” (Otaku USA)

The path to the Philosopher’s Stone now enters unfamiliar territory, where the Elrics face exotic strangers who use alkahestry, a version of alchemy native to the distant kingdom of Xing. As insight is gained into the secret world of the Homunculi and their enigmatic creator, Lust feels the fires of Mustang’s rage in battle – and the outcome of the clash will shock you. Winry endures the trial of her life when new horrors of the Ishvalan massacre are revealed. Truly, the gate is opening on a new era of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Are you ready to see what’s on the other side?

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 2 Specifications

As Brotherhood continues, the story diverges further from the first Fullmetal Alchemist animated series (2003) and follows Hiromu Arakawa's original manga (these episodes encompass volumes 8 through 13). The adventures in the earlier series involving Dr. Marcoh, Shou Tucker, and the Elrics' rigorous training under Izumi-sensei are downplayed or eliminated as director Yasuhiro Irie follows a more dramatic story line. In the wrenching episode 20, Ed discovers that neither he nor Izumi succeeded in transmuting the souls of the dead: his mother and Izumi's baby were always beyond their reach. But the Elric brothers have little time for reflection as Colonel Roy Mustang's battle with the Homunculi intensifies. Mustang succeeds in killing Lust, and Hohenheim, not Edward, destroys Greed in this version. Irie introduces the characters from the country of Xing who didn't appear in the original animation: Prince Ling Yao and his attendants who join the Elrics, and the diminutive May Chang, who befriends Scar. In the take-no-prisoners season climax, Gluttony, maddened by Lust's death, swallows Edward, Ling, and Envy. The three unwilling allies find themselves lost in an endless wasteland of blood, skeletons, and ruins. Using knowledge he acquired in the ruins of Cselkcess, Ed attempts to transmute the trio through the Portal of Truth. During his journey, he discovers that Al's body still exists, and he vows to return for it. Arakawa's cartoony drawings of Ed and Al provide much-needed comic relief. The darker and more dramatic story of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood packs even more of an emotional and visual punch than the much-loved original series. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 4 [Blu-ray] Overview

Edward and Alphonse Elric’s reckless disregard for alchemy’s fundamental laws ripped half of Ed’s limbs from his body and left Al’s soul clinging to a cold suit of armor. To restore what was lost, the brothers scour a war-torn land for the Philosopher’s Stone, a fabled relic which grants the ability to perform alchemy in impossible ways.

The Elrics are not alone in their search; the corrupt State Military is eager to harness the artifact’s power. So too are the strange Homunculi and their shadowy creator. The mythical Stone lures exotic alchemists from distant kingdoms, scarring some deeply enough to inspire murder. As the Elrics find their course altered by these enemies and allies, their purpose remains unchanged – and their bond unbreakable.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 4 [Blu-ray] Specifications

In the penultimate collection of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, the filmmakers begin drawing together the various plots, building to the final confrontation between good and evil. In a flashback sequence, viewers learn the origins of both Hohenheim and his doppelganger, the "Father" of the Homunculi. Hohenheim was once No. 23, a slave of an alchemist in Cselkcess, who created the first Homunculus. When the King of Cselkcess's attempt to achieve immortality backfired, Hohenheim became "a human Philosopher's Stone" and the Homunculus created a body for himself that was a duplicate of Hohenheim's. Decades later, the Promised Day is at hand: "Father" plans to activate the countrywide transmutation circle, killing untold thousands to create an enormous Philosopher's Stone--and activate the "Mannequin Army," a corps of deathless zombies animated by the Stone's power. But even supernatural plans can go awry. Lust was destroyed by Colonel Mustang; Pride, in the guise of Selim Bradley, devours Gluttony. Greed, who took over the body of Prince Ling Yao of Xing, has joined forces with the Elrics; Wrath, a.k.a. Fuhrer Bradley, is missing, leaving Pride, Sloth, and Envy. Pitted against them are an interlocking series of alliances that include the Elric Brothers and Hohenheim; Dr. Marcoh, Scar, and May Chang, with their knowledge of the Alkahestry of Xing; and Colonel Mustang, Alex and Olivier Armstrong, and their loyal soldiers. Director Yasuhiro Irie uses some striking special effects, especially Pride's scissorlike jaws of shadow, to pump up the action. These episodes encompass volume 19 through the first part of volume 23 of Hiromu Arakawa's original manga, and fans of this outstanding series will be waiting impatiently for the fifth set to bring the adventures of Edward and Alphonse Elric to what should be a dynamite finale. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Complete Second Season (Viridian Collection) Overview

When the Elric brothers recklessly attempted to raise their mother from the dead, the horrors they unleashed marked the beginning of a long journey into the darkest corners of the cruelty of mankind. Now, destinies are converging for those who remain to fight for the light of salvation.

The hunt for the truth behind truths is growing more desperate, and ruined Ishbal waits at the end of a road choked with wreckage both human and soulless. Amid rumors of new war and resurrected horrors of the past, hidden masters rush their pawns down this path of betrayal and doubt. As these seekers of the Philosopher’s Stone grasp for answers, the most sacred tenet of Alchemy is questioned – The Law of Equivalent Exchange. But the harshest judgment is reserved for the belief on which the Elrics have built their lives – the faith in an unbreakable bond between brothers. Weary and broken, Edward and Alphonse must face the ultimate sacrifice. Will it be enough to make them whole?

Fullmetal Alchemist, Volume 1: The Curse (Episodes 1-4) Specifications

It's easy to understand why Fullmetal Alchemist has regularly topped viewer polls in Japan since its debut in 2003: the fantasy-adventure by director Mizushima Seiji (Generator Gawl) offers a satisfying blend of slapstick comedy, exciting adventure, and genuine warmth. Young Alphonse and Edward Elric delve into forbidden knowledge when they use alchemy to try to bring their mother back from the dead--and pay a terrible price under the principle of "equivalent trade." Al becomes a disembodied soul in a suit of armor; Ed loses an arm and a leg, but later receives mechanical prostheses. The brothers wander through a world that resembles late 19th century Europe, seeking the legendary Philosopher's Stone, which they believe can restore their bodies. Unlike American programs that juxtapose smart-aleck humor and heavy-handed sermonizing, Fullmetal Alchemist has real heart. Neither the comedy nor the action detract from the bond between the brothers that constitutes the emotional core of the series. (Rated TV PG: violence, alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

Before Father can kill Ed and Izumi, the Briggs soldiers, along with several of Ed's allies, join up to attack Father and use up his stone supply. Father lets down his barrier temporarily to try and absorb Greed's stone, giving Ed, Alex and Izumi the opportunity to damage him to the point of defending himself manually. As Father starts to lose control, he creates a blast which traps Ed's arm whilst his automail arm is destroyed. With Ed in danger, Al convinces May to help him perform a transmutation, trading his soul for the return of Ed's right arm. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 5 Overview

The heavens tremble and the planet quakes as the souls of heroes and villains teeter on the edge of darkness and light. The final chapter of the sweeping epic – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – is here.

The Flame Alchemist’s rebel army pushes the forces of Central to the brink of collapse – until the enemy’s fallen leader returns to take control. As mortals and monsters wage war, young Edward and Alphonse Elric must face a cruel being with the unholy power of a god. After endless adventures and countless struggles, the boys find the fate of the world in their weary hands. When the Gateway closes and the circle is complete – who will be left alive to celebrate the astonishing sacrifices made in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 5?

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 5 Specifications

Director Yasuhiro Irie and his artists pull out all the stops as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood comes to its appropriately dramatic and moving conclusion. The Elric Brothers and their allies--Von Hohenheim, Roy Mustang, Scar, Izumi, the Armstrongs, May Chang, and Ling Yao/Greed--strive to thwart the machinations of the "father" of the Homunculi and his remaining minions: Pride, Wrath, Sloth, Envy, and the zombies of the Mannequin Army. During the solar eclipse on the Promised Day, Father plans to usurp the power of God. Can even the most skilled alchemists stop him? The climactic battles are as wrenching as they are spectacular: some of the fight scenes feature flashy CG effects that rival Hideaki Anno's newer Evangelion movies. But the emotional impact overshadows the visuals, as each of the main characters rises to the challenges they face. Edward and Alphonse discover just how much they're willing to sacrifice for each other. Mustang avenges Colonel Hughes's death and destroys Envy, but Ed and Lieutenant Hawkeye make him realize that his quest for vengeance threatens to destroy him. The initial Fullmetal Alchemist series, which was completed before manga artist Hiromu Arakawa had envisioned her story's outcome, ended with the setup for the feature The Conqueror of Shambala. Brotherhood, which closely follows the plot of the manga, reaches a much more satisfying and definitive conclusion. Saying good-bye to two of the most beloved characters in anime history may be the price viewers pay for an appropriate ending to their story--and an example of equivalent exchange. Although the adventures of Edward and Alphonse Elric seem to have ended, a new feature, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, opened in Japan in July 2011. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Part 1 Specifications

As the television adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's manga Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) remains one of the best and best-loved series of the last decade, it's surprising Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is not a continuation of the characters' adventures, but a remake. Young Alphonse and Edward Elric delved into forbidden knowledge when they tried to use alchemy to bring their mother back from the dead. They paid a terrible price under the principle of "equivalent exchange". Al was reduced to a disembodied soul bonded to a suit of armor; Ed lost an arm and a leg but has been fitted with the mechanical prostheses that earn him the title "Fullmetal". Although the series has been expanded to 63 episodes from the original 51, many of the subplots have been trimmed or eliminated to keep the focus on the Elric brothers. Their encounters with Cornello, the corrupt priest in Liore, and the murderous guardians of the sinister Fifth Laboratory are noticeably shorter. Yasuhiro Irie's direction is less dynamic than Seiji Mizushima's, but he has the advantage of stronger scripts that pack a lot of emotional punch. He balances that intensity with broader slapstick, using the simple, cartoony versions of the characters Arakawa draws in comic sequences.
