Fullmetal Alchemist, Volume 3: Equivalent Exchange (Episodes 9-12) Overview

"This is one anime series you can’t afford do miss"" –Chris Johnston, NewtypeUSA The Fullmetal Alchemist, Edward Elric, is given his first assignment. He is to inspect the coalmines of Youswell, a task he believes to be Mustang’s attempt to deter his search for the Philosopher’s Stone. Ignoring direct orders Ed and Al take a detour to a popular tourist town hoping to uncover the smallest fragment of truth behind the Stone’s growing legend. Includes 4 episodes and 20 page art booklet. Approximate Running Time: 105 minutes.

Fullmetal Alchemist, Volume 3: Equivalent Exchange (Episodes 9-12) Specifications

As the popular fantasy-adventure Fullmetal Alchemist continues, Edward Elrich uses his wits, as well as his professional skills, to give a corrupt military officer a well-deserved comeuppance. Based on the story "The Mining Town" in the first collection of Hiromu Arakawa's original manga, this adventure proves that "Be Thou for the People" isn't just a motto for the Elrich Brothers. The citizens of the played-out gold rush town of Xenotime refuse to accept Edward and Alphonse for who they are because two strangers have assumed their identities. Both pairs of brothers learn and teach valuable lessons as they defeat a murderous land baron who's after the Philosopher's Stone. Every episode of this winning series delivers what the viewers want: adventure, magic, slapstick, and Edward's inevitable rants about his diminutive stature. But Fullmetal Alchemist also delivers something that's become rare in American and Japanese animation: heart. (Rated TV PG: violence, minor risqué humor, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Fullmetal Alchemist, Volume 11: Becoming the Stone (Episodes 41-44) Specifications

As Fullmetal Alchemist builds to its climax, director Seiji Mizushima and screenwriter Shou Aikawa ratchet up the emotional intensity. Ed and Al learn two terrible lessons. The first is that any deed, however well-intended, can have dire consequences--including Ed's efforts to free the people of Liore from a false prophet in the first episodes of the series. The second lesson reinforces the truth of the cliché "Be careful what you wish for, because you may get it." Using the arcane knowledge of the Ishbalans and the lives of hundreds soldiers, Scar succeeds in creating a Philosopher's Stone--in a most unlikely place. But the Elric Brothers have no time to explore the magical Stone's vast powers: The Homunculi and the Military are circling them like vultures. Complicating matters further is the reappearance of the Hohenheim, the long-lost father of Edward and Alphonse. Hardcore otaku will notice manga artist Hiromu Arakawa's cow self-caricature amid the stars floating around a dazed Winrey. (Rated TV PG: violence, grotesque imagery, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

As the chaos surrounding the quest for the Philosopher’s Stone boils over, Edward Elric is left to face his destiny and bear the burdens of his actions alone. Scar, determined to reenact the horrors of the past, must be stopped at all cost. But when those who sought to save lives are instead sought as fugitives of the State, the Elric brothers will be forced to flee…

Alliances shift and factions fracture as undeniable truths glare in the light of day and the rumor of civil war drives unrest. And yet all seek the Philosopher’s Stone. Al has been changed into something impossible to comprehend and as the brothers are separated, his suit of armor begins to disintegrate. Ed has precious little time left to find his sibling. These weary young men have traveled a long and difficult path, seeking to regain what was lost. Enemies have been toppled, friends have been buried and the State will be remade. Even the one inevitable truth will be called into question – The Law of Equivalent Exchange.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Season Two, Part 2 Specifications

These episodes bring the Fullmetal Alchemist series to its appropriately moving climax. Director Seiji Mizushima and screenwriter Shou Aikawa ratchet up the emotional intensity as they draw together the threads of the narrative, beginning with the terrible night when Al and Ed tried to resurrect their mother. In Liore, Scar uses the arcane knowledge of the Ishbalans and the lives of hundreds of soldiers to create a Philosopher's Stone. But the Elric Brothers have no time to explore its power: The Homunculi and the Military are circling them like sharks. Complicating matters further is the appearance of Hohenheim of Light, the boys' long-lost father. Newly promoted General Mustang and Major Armstrong launch a revolt against King Bradley as disagreements among the Homunculi escalate into violence. Alphonse tries to learn how to use the Philosopher's Stone to aid his brother, asking the despicable Shou Tucker for instruction. The fate of their world (and, possibly, this one) is at stake as Ed and Al are put to the ultimate test: If they fail, the Homunculi will continue their murderous rampage. But Fullmetal Alchemist isn't just a simple good versus evil story, as revelations about the origins of Envy and the role of Hohenheim prove. A truth even greater than the law of Equivalent Exchange prevails: the love between Alphonse and Edward Elric. The skillful blend of drama, adventure, and comedy make Fullmetal Alchemist a truly noteworthy series in the history of anime, one whose influence is sure to be felt for years to come. At the end of the last disc, viewers may feel the sort of emptiness readers experience when Sherlock Holmes goes over Reisenbach Falls. But the final episodes set up the feature, The Conqueror of Shamballa and Hiromu Arakawa's manga continues. (Rated TV PG: violence, grotesque imagery, nudity, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

See how it all began!

Innocence and flesh were sacrificed when two young brothers ignored the laws of Alchemy in an attempt to resurrect their mother. The horrors they recklessly unleashed that night marked the beginning of a journey that leads from darkness to light and back.

In an era of war and corruption, State Alchemist Edward Elric and his brother Alphonse desperately search for the Philosopher’s Stone. The legendary artifact is their last hope to restore what was lost – or it could be their undoing. The grisly truths found in the quest for the relic will test their souls in ways unimaginable. Murder stalks the brothers from the shadows and false prophets conspire to steal their faith. Morality is assaulted by military atrocities and scientific abominations. Amid the ashes of their childhood, Edward and Alphonse will discover the power to create is but a breath away from the power to destroy. The bond of brotherhood will be their greatest weapon in the fight for their lives.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Season One Box Set Specifications

Fullmetal Alchemist (2003) remains one of the best and most popular anime series of recent years. Other shows have tried to copy its singular mixture of slapstick comedy, supernatural adventure and genuine warmth, but none has succeeded. Although they knew it was forbidden, young Alphonse and Edward Elric used alchemy to try to bring their mother back from the dead--and paid a dreadful price. Ed lost his left leg and sacrificed his right arm to preserve Al's disembodied soul in a suit of armor. Edward later received the "automail" prostheses that earned him the title of "Fullmetal Alchemist." As the youngest State Alchemist in history, Ed tries to research the Philosopher’s Stone, which he believes can restore their bodies. But State Alchemists work for the military, and Edward is sent on missions that bring him and Al into contact with new friends, new challenges, and new dangers. The brothers learn that terrible things have been done in the quest for the Philosopher's Stone, by the military and by the Homunculi, Lust, Gluttony, and Envy. These sinister figures believe Ed can succeed where they have failed, even if it means committing multiple murders. The Elric brothers' inner struggles eclipse the violent external battles: Al has begun to doubt that he ever existed in human form; Ed fears that Al hates him for delving into the forbidden knowledge that destroyed his body. But nothing can weaken the bond between the brothers that constitutes the emotional core of the series. Ed sometimes appears hot-tempered and cynical, but his bitter exterior conceals a kind heart; Al is gentler and more patient, but he suffers from the physical isolation his armor body imposes. Fullmetal Alchemist is, simply, a terrific series, and this set makes an excellent introduction for audiences who missed its initial release. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 5 [Blu-ray] Overview

The heavens tremble and the planet quakes as the souls of heroes and villains teeter on the edge of darkness and light. The final chapter of the sweeping epic – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – is here.

The Flame Alchemist’s rebel army pushes the forces of Central to the brink of collapse – until the enemy’s fallen leader returns to take control. As mortals and monsters wage war, young Edward and Alphonse Elric must face a cruel being with the unholy power of a god. After endless adventures and countless struggles, the boys find the fate of the world in their weary hands. When the Gateway closes and the circle is complete – who will be left alive to celebrate the astonishing sacrifices made in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 5?

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 5 [Blu-ray] Specifications

Director Yasuhiro Irie and his artists pull out all the stops as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood comes to its appropriately dramatic and moving conclusion. The Elric Brothers and their allies--Von Hohenheim, Roy Mustang, Scar, Izumi, the Armstrongs, May Chang, and Ling Yao/Greed--strive to thwart the machinations of the "father" of the Homunculi and his remaining minions: Pride, Wrath, Sloth, Envy, and the zombies of the Mannequin Army. During the solar eclipse on the Promised Day, Father plans to usurp the power of God. Can even the most skilled alchemists stop him? The climactic battles are as wrenching as they are spectacular: some of the fight scenes feature flashy CG effects that rival Hideaki Anno's newer Evangelion movies. But the emotional impact overshadows the visuals, as each of the main characters rises to the challenges they face. Edward and Alphonse discover just how much they're willing to sacrifice for each other. Mustang avenges Colonel Hughes's death and destroys Envy, but Ed and Lieutenant Hawkeye make him realize that his quest for vengeance threatens to destroy him. The initial Fullmetal Alchemist series, which was completed before manga artist Hiromu Arakawa had envisioned her story's outcome, ended with the setup for the feature The Conqueror of Shambala. Brotherhood, which closely follows the plot of the manga, reaches a much more satisfying and definitive conclusion. Saying good-bye to two of the most beloved characters in anime history may be the price viewers pay for an appropriate ending to their story--and an example of equivalent exchange. Although the adventures of Edward and Alphonse Elric seem to have ended, a new feature, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, opened in Japan in July 2011. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 3 [Blu-ray] Overview

Edward and Alphonse Elric’s reckless disregard for alchemy’s fundamental laws ripped half of Ed’s limbs from his body and left Al’s soul clinging to a cold suit of armor. To restore what was lost, the brothers scour a war-torn land for the Philosopher’s Stone, a fabled relic which grants the ability to perform alchemy in impossible ways. The Elrics are not alone in their search; the corrupt State Military is eager to harness the artifact’s power. So too are the strange Homunculi and their shadowy creator. The mythical Stone lures exotic alchemists from distant kingdoms, scarring some deeply enough to inspire murder. As the Elrics find their course altered by these enemies and allies, their purpose remains unchanged – and their bond unbreakable.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 3 [Blu-ray] Specifications

The tone of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood darkens as it passes its halfway point. The filmmakers expose more of the sinister plans of the Homunculi's "father": an unnamed character appears who looks exactly like Hohenheim, but who commands even greater powers. Using a Philosopher's Stone, this thaumaturge turns Prince Ling Yao of Xing into a new Greed; Ling is so hungry for power, he welcomes the transformation. Ed and Al learn that the Alkahestry of Xing operates in ways Amestrian alchemy doesn't, opening the possibility of regaining their original bodies without using the evil Stone. But they need Scar, Dr. Marcoh, and May Chang to decipher the research Scar's brother pursued in Ishbal, which means keeping the trio of fugitives out of the hands of Fuhrer Bradley and the Homunculi. When the action shifts to Ft. Briggs in the northern wilds of Amestris, the Elrics' plans are complicated by the appearance of the Homunculus Sloth and Bradley's sadistic agent Kimblee, the Crimson Alchemist. Ed discovers the staggering scale of the Homunculi's plot: the entire country of Amestris was created to form a gargantuan, murderous transmutation circle. The Elrics and their friends strive to foil the deadly game being played by Hohenheim's doppelganger. The plot of Brotherhood follows the original manga so closely that much of the dialogue is taken verbatim, and the filmmakers seem to have used some of the panels as storyboards. (These episodes encompass volumes 14 through 18.) If many aspects of the story are more unsettling, they're also more satisfying, as the artists pull no punches, whether conveying the horrors of the Ishbalan War (spelled "Ishvalan" in the subtitles) or the humor of Lt. Hawkeye needling Ed for refusing to admit he's in love with Winrey. (Rated TV PG: violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity, tobacco and alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

Before you do anything, think this. There are two trains of belief prior to detection and intervention. One belief is to catch and punish, and the other is to identify and help- remember why you are doing this, and the intervention will turn out much better.

Inflammation in whites of eyes; pupils unlikely to be dilated. Odor similar to burnt rope on clothing or breath. Tendency to drive moderately - below speed limit. Distorted sense of time duct - tendency to overestimate time intervals. Use or rights of paraphernalia together with roach clip, packs of rolling papers, pipes or bongs. Marijuana users are difficult to identify unless they are under the influence of the drug at the time of observation. Casual users may show none of the general symptoms. Marijuana does have a obvious odor and may be the same color or a bit greener than tobacco.

Cocaine/Crack/Methamphetamines/Stimulants: highly dilated pupils. Dry mouth and nose, bad breath, frequent lip licking. Immoderate activity, Strangeness sitting still, lack of interest in food or sleep. Irritable, argumentative, nervous. Talkative, but conversation often lacks continuity; changes subjects rapidly. Runny nose, cold or continuing sinus/nasal problems, nose bleeds. Use or rights of paraphernalia together with small spoons, razor blades, mirror, little bottles of white powder and plastic, glass or metal straws.

Depressants: Symptoms of alcohol intoxication with no alcohol odor on breath (remember that depressants are oftentimes used with alcohol). Lack of facial expression or animation. Flat affect. While there may be no easily apparent symptoms of analgesic abuse, it may be indicated by frequent visits to separate physicians or dentists for prescriptions to treat pain of non-specific origin. In cases where inpatient has continuing pain and abuse of medication is suspected, it may be indicated by amounts and frequency taken.

Inhalants: Substance odor on breath and clothes. Runny nose. Watering eyes. Drowsiness or unconsciousness. Poor muscle control. Prefers group operation to being alone. Several chemical varieties have been synthesized, most notably, Mda , Stp, and Pcp. Hallucinogen usage reached a peaking the United States in the late 1960's, but declined shortly thereafter due to a broader awareness of the detrimental effects of usage. However, a disturbing trend indicating resurgence in hallucinogen usage by high school and college age persons nationwide has been acknowledged by law enforcement. With the irregularity of Pcp, all hallucinogens seem to share coarse effects of use. Any quantum of sensory perceptions may be altered to varying degrees. Synesthesia, or the "seeing" of sounds, and the "hearing" of colors, is a coarse side ensue of hallucinogen use. Depersonalization, acute anxiety, and acute depression resulting in suicide have also been noted as a ensue of hallucinogen use. Note: there are some forms of hallucinogens that are thought about downers and constrict pupil diameters.

Overdose or Od Information

Xi. Specific: Overdose & emergency Intervention Techniques

Drug Overdose- Drug overdoses can be accidental or on purpose. The amount of a drug needed to cause an overdose varies with the type of drug and the someone taking it. Overdoses from prescribe or over-the-counter (Otc) medicines, "street" drugs, and/or alcohol can be life threatening. Know, too, that mixing obvious medications or "street" drugs with alcohol can also kill.

Physical symptoms of a drug overdose vary with the type of drug(s) taken. They include: Abnormal breathing Slurred speech Lack of coordination Slow or rapid pulse Low or elevated body temperature Enlarged or small eye pupils Reddish face Heavy sweating Drowsiness Violent outbursts Delusions and/or hallucinations Unconsciousness which may lead to coma (Note: A diabetic who takes insulin may show some of the above symptoms if he or she is having an insulin reaction.)

Parents need to watch for signs of illegal drug and alcohol use in their children. Morning hangovers, the odor of alcohol, and red streaks in the whites of the eyes are obvious signs of alcohol use. Items such as pipes, rolling papers, eye droppers and butane lighters may be the first telling clues that someone is abusing drugs. Another clue is behavior changes such as: Lack of appetite Insomnia Hostility mental obscuring Depression Mood swings Secretive behavior public isolation Deep sleep Hallucinations.

Prevention- Accidental prescribe and over-the-counter medication overdoses may be prevented by request your doctor or pharmacist: What is the medication and why is it being prescribed? How and when should the medication be taken and for how long? (Follow the instructions exactly as given.) Can the medication be taken with other medicines or alcohol or not? Are there any foods to avoid while taking this medication? What are the possible side effects? What are the symptoms of an overdose and what should be done if it occurs? Should any activities be avoided such as sitting in the sun, operating heavy machinery, driving? Should the treatment still be taken if there is a pre-existing medical condition?

To avoid medication overdoses: Never take a treatment prescribed for someone else. Never give or take medication in the dark. Before each dose, all the time read the label on the bottle to be obvious it is the accurate medication. all the time tell the doctor of any former side effects or adverse reactions to medication as well as new and unusual symptoms that occur after taking the medicine. all the time store medications in bottles with childproof lids and place those bottles on high shelves, out of a child's reach, or in locked cabinets. Take the prescribed dose, not more. Keep medications in their former packaging to discourage illicit drug use among children: Set a good example for your children by not using drugs yourself. Teach your child to say "No" to drugs and alcohol. construe the dangers of drug use, together with the risk of Aids. Get to know your children's friends and their parents. Know where your children are and whom they are with. Listen to your children and help them to express their feelings and fears. Encourage your children to engage in salutary activities such as sports, scouting, community-based youth programs and volunteer work. Learn to identify the signs of drug and alcohol abuse.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 4 Overview

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Part 4 Specifications

In the penultimate collection of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, the filmmakers begin drawing together the various plots, building to the final confrontation between good and evil. In a flashback sequence, viewers learn the origins of both Hohenheim and his doppelganger, the "Father" of the Homunculi. Hohenheim was once No. 23, a slave of an alchemist in Cselkcess, who created the first Homunculus. When the King of Cselkcess's attempt to achieve immortality backfired, Hohenheim became "a human Philosopher's Stone" and the Homunculus created a body for himself that was a duplicate of Hohenheim's. Decades later, the Promised Day is at hand: "Father" plans to activate the countrywide transmutation circle, killing untold thousands to create an enormous Philosopher's Stone--and activate the "Mannequin Army," a corps of deathless zombies animated by the Stone's power. But even supernatural plans can go awry. Lust was destroyed by Colonel Mustang; Pride, in the guise of Selim Bradley, devours Gluttony. Greed, who took over the body of Prince Ling Yao of Xing, has joined forces with the Elrics; Wrath, a.k.a. Fuhrer Bradley, is missing, leaving Pride, Sloth, and Envy. Pitted against them are an interlocking series of alliances that include the Elric Brothers and Hohenheim; Dr. Marcoh, Scar, and May Chang, with their knowledge of the Alkahestry of Xing; and Colonel Mustang, Alex and Olivier Armstrong, and their loyal soldiers. Director Yasuhiro Irie uses some striking special effects, especially Pride's scissorlike jaws of shadow, to pump up the action. These episodes encompass volume 19 through the first part of volume 23 of Hiromu Arakawa's original manga, and fans of this outstanding series will be waiting impatiently for the fifth set to bring the adventures of Edward and Alphonse Elric to what should be a dynamite finale.
